英Leicester出身のシンガーソングライター。此れが初のシングルリリースで、FactoryオーナーAnthony H. Wilson (a.k.a. Tony Wilson) とDonald Johnson (A Certain Ratio) がプロデュースを行っている。1980年クレプスキュール発"From Brussels With Love"収録の"Haystack"では、Joy DivisionからNew Orderになる前の彼らが演奏していた。本盤はアシッド・フォークの様相で非常に良い。

両面に穴がカットされているスリーヴデザインは、次に紹介する"Its Hard To Be An Egg / John Dowie (1981)"同様、Martyn Atkins。

The Haçiendaオープンの翌年リリースしたMinny PopsのメンバーによるHip Hop。此頃Factoryは、同年のNew Order "Confusion"でもわかるようにN.Y.に焦点が当たっていた。当時のオレはこの辺に関してはダサいジャケと共にどーでも良かったが、Tommy Boy関連を聴きだして馴染めた記憶がある。完全にC級イヤD級だが、今となっては此れは此れで良い。

Joy Divisionに似ていると尽く言われ、其の彼らのライヴでIan Curtisが発作を起こした時は、Alan Hempsall (Vocal)が代役をさせられたり（映画「24 Hour Party People」より。事実かは不明）と、真っ当な評価はされて来なかった様に思うクリスピー・アンビュランス。当時多かったJ.D.モドキでは無かったのは、Alan Hempsall の個性に依るものが大きい。Ian Curtisの代役は誰でも良かったのでは無いのだ。が、またJ.D.の影響力の大きさを今更ながら確認せざるを得ない事も事実。因みに1976年にマンチェスターの「Free Trade Hall」で見たSex Pistolsに影響されて結成したのはJ.D.と同じである。3rdアルバム「The Powder Blind Dream」を同郷Graham Massey (808 State, Biting Tongues)のプロデュースで発表。

デビュー作である「JIM I (FAC 78)」と次作「JIM II (FAC 119)」のコンピEP。後にBrian Enoをプロデューサーに迎えビッグバンドになるが解散、6年後復活し現在に至る。楽曲の素晴らしさは当然だが、Tim Boothの、繊細でかつ力強く、UKらしい色合いを持つ声が最大の魅力。初期と後期がオススメ。

808 Stateの中心人物であるGraham Masseyがその前に結成したバンド。1981~89年にアルバム4枚、EP4枚、2003年にアルバム1枚をリリース。現在も不定期にライヴを行なっている。Post PunkがJazzとFunkへと向かった好例だが、その後Technoへ発展し成功した例は彼らの他に知らない。Acid HouseなJazzやFunkを、ほぼ変わらぬ面子での2003年「Recharge」も好盤。Manchesterの絆は深い。
