決してロック映画ではない映画本編は、此のジャケットの様にワーナーがMick Jagger推ししたのが逆に仇になった様な低評価だが、凝った斬新さと完結しないプロットが何度観ても飽きない傑作。ちなみに共同監督だがニコラス・ローグの処女作。

本盤は時代的にロック一辺倒になりそうだが、ソウルに無理やりぶち込まれた初期Moogや、Randy Newmanてこんなだっけ？なアメリカンロックや、後の自身作品で聴いた事あるフレーズを弾くRy Cooderや、元祖Hip Hop、The Last Poets等々バラエティ豊かで楽しい。制作会社がワーナーだからか当時のポピュラー音楽がアメリカにパワーがあったせいかアメリカン臭が強いが、Jagger-Richards共作のB1は其れに負けないぐらいイイ。

Madchesterの喧騒がピークの頃、突然リリースされた1stアルバム未収録のシングル。深く抑えたグルーヴが良い。本盤リリース後に彼らは4年間の長い2ndアルバム制作に入る。この頃以降しばらくSilvertone Recordsは1stアルバムから無理やりなシングルカットを連発し金儲けに奔走。出るモノが尽く酷かったがファンは無視できず結局買うハメになるのだった。

「この曲のドラム・ビートはギタリストのジョン・スクワイアがジェイムズ・ブラウンの「Funky Drummer」（「In the Jungle Groove」収録）から引用したものをアレンジした上でループさせてある。 ベースラインは Young MC の「Know How」より。 後にヒップホップの大御所、Run-D.M.C.がドラムとベースのパートを "What's It All About" で使用した。」

Sex Pistolsの、というかMalcolm McLarenの映画のサントラ。当時購入してほとんど聴くことが無かったが、先日YouTubeで映画本編を発見、ついでに数十年ぶりに本盤を聴いたが、やはり映画同様の茶番劇。ただしSex PistolsそのものがMalcolm McLaren総監督の素人寸劇であり、だからこそあの強力なデビューアルバムが生まれたと言える。本盤には其の時代の衝動と過去のポップミュージックが、混沌の中で腐りかけの甘い臭気を発したロックンロールとなり、そこかしこに散らばっている。

映画本編の無能な監督はさておき、Malcolm McLarenは有能であったがマジックは実質1年で終わり、其の後は腐葉土から見たこともない様々な花が咲き乱れることになる。ちなみにタイトル曲は無能な監督作だと先日知り苦笑。なおB4に針飛び有り。

何故かアノFetish RecordsからリリースのUSバンドは1982年とは思えないオルタナティヴ感たっぷりだが、調べるとR.E.M."Radio Free Europe"は1981年だった。でかいアメリカをガンガンどさ回りしてそうな玄人なバンドで、最近ヤフオクで入手したオレには新鮮だった。なお、Fetish Records絡みでCosey Fanni Tutti (TG) がチョビっと参加。ジャケットはNeville Brody。一世を風靡した彼だがオレは苦手。

英Leicester出身のシンガーソングライター。此れが初のシングルリリースで、FactoryオーナーAnthony H. Wilson (a.k.a. Tony Wilson) とDonald Johnson (A Certain Ratio) がプロデュースを行っている。1980年クレプスキュール発"From Brussels With Love"収録の"Haystack"では、Joy DivisionからNew Orderになる前の彼らが演奏していた。本盤はアシッド・フォークの様相で非常に良い。

両面に穴がカットされているスリーヴデザインは、次に紹介する"Its Hard To Be An Egg / John Dowie (1981)"同様、Martyn Atkins。
